Legal Separation

Just because you have physically separated and you know what your Date of Separation is, does not mean that you are legally separated. A Legal Separation is a process just like a divorce, but the parties remain married. The assets are divided, the debts are divided, the court determines a child custody schedule, child and spousal support are awarded, but you are still married! This may be preferred for religious reasons or it is an option for individuals who need to maintain health coverage and would be unable to obtain coverage on their own.
